Gallis Dimosthenis: He was born in Athens. He studied International Enterprises and European Relations. We worked for several years in economic departments and enterprises He is a self-taught photographer with specialization in meaningful and fine art photography. His images have a sentimental and storytelling character. He has shown his work through many group and individual exhibitions in the country and abroad. Some works of his belong in personal collections, foundations and museums. As a photographer he collaborates with psychotherapeutic, theatrical and fine art groups while he teaches his art through educational workshops. He lives and creates in Athens. He is also currently being trained as a Gestalt Mental Health Counsellor in Gestalt Foundation Athens.
Gkoutzioti Ioanna: Gestalt psychotherapist, mental health consultant, and coordinator of HEN and 'Volunteers Inside-Out' groups. In 2000, I graduated from an accredited center of the British University of Lincolnshire & Humbershide, with a Bachelor of Psychology and an internship in the Argo Alternative Therapy Program. As a continuation of my studies in 2001, I attended the Master in Business Administration Program of Lincoln University, majoring in Human Resource Management, obtaining a postgraduate certification in MBA. In 2002 I attended the Postgraduate Program in Child and Adult Developmental Psychology at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, England, obtaining the M.Sc.
From 2003 to 2011, I worked in the private and public sector in departments of psychology, research, finance and administration. While at the same time, I attended seminars on mental health, medicine, and entrepreneurship at centers such as the Italian and French Institute, the Systemic Society, the Psychoanalytic Society, the Open University, HEN, HAGT, the Gestalt Foundation, Cinema-Photography-Documentary and Short Film, but also of other organizations and educational institutions.
In 2017 (2013-2016), completing the training of the Gestalt foundation, I started working privately providing psychotherapy and support services to adults and conducting seminars on the topics of 'relationships between self and other', and also, how psychotherapy 'works’ through photography, until today (2023) in Gestalt Foundation.

Holder of ECP (European Certificate of Psychotherapy). She works with adults, groups and couples.
For the last 10 years she has been focusing on Gestalt psychotherapy procedures related to the body. Coordinates movement groups and workshops, in collaboration with teachers of contemporary dance and primitive expression, as well as GestaltTango workshops. The workshops and groups are addressed at individuals interested in personal development as well as at mental health professionals at a supervisory level. Their main purpose is both the self-knowledge of the participants through contact with the body and their awareness through the social - voluntary offer with performances, which are organized at the end of each workshop.
She actively participates in the design, organization and implementation of educational, postgraduate and supervisory programs for professionals in the field of Mental Health and Human Sciences, with a dominant focus on Human Rights and the Suppression of Violence, which are her main interests. Coordinates the design and implementation of voluntary action programs in the community in collaboration with organizations, associations. She was a supervisor in a program of psychological support for women in XEN (Young Women’s Christian Association) in Thessaloniki as well as in the juvenile and women's prisons in Diavata, Thessaloniki in collaboration with EPATH ((Society for the Protection of Minors in Thessaloniki).
She was scientifically responsible for the design and evaluation of programs and educational materials in seminars on Health Education, Conflict Management and Human Rights for primary and secondary school teachers in collaboration with public and private bodies, such as the "”Experiential Workshop” aiming at raising awareness on issues of conflict resolution at school and with a focus on Human Rights" organized by the Hellenic Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs in collaboration with the Gestalt Foundation, Psychotherapy & Training center and under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, in 2009.
She is an active member of the Human Rights & Social Responsibility Committee of the EAGT (European Association for Gestalt Psychotherapy), whose purpose is to investigate the connection between Gestalt psychotherapy and the socio-political context, with special reference to the promotion of Human Rights.

Katsamakis Konstantinos: Dancer, choreographer, professor of modern dance and improvisation of Ministry of Culture and Athletics. He studied dance in the higher professional dance school obtaining a diploma of professor of dance from the Ministry of Culture and Athletics. Since 2006 he teaches modern dance and improvisation to adults. He is candidate teacher and member of the worldwide research community of Axis Syllabus where he studies human anatomy and its relation to dance and movement.
As a dancer and choreographer, he has worked with the National Theater of Northern Greece in the dance theater and in theatrical productions, with the Experimental Scene of Art, the festivals of Athens and Epidaurus, with the festival of cinema of Thessaloniki, Biennale of Modern Art, the festival of Moni Lazariston, etc.
Since 2009 he works with Gestalt Foundation coordinating seminars of dance and movement in experiential and educational groups.
In 2012 he co-created the ΚΙΝΟΥΜΕ dance studio teaching and choreographing daily and in 2019 created the dance group ΚΙΝΟΥΜΕ dance company with the goal of evolving his creative process. He is a trainee of Gestalt Foundation Thessalonikis, as a Mental Health Counselor.
Mertzani Anna: B.A in Early Childhood Education, M.A in Child Care, Law and Practice, with a focus on Child Rights and Child Abuse. Anna Mertzani is a graduate of the Acting School "Archi" and has had a short carrier in Theater and Cinema. She has attended the basic course of Photography studies at Plato Rivelli's "Photographic Circle" with participation in group exhibitions (black and white photography). She has worked as an editor for children's publications and is the author of the teenage novel “Do I Have a Right to Tell a Story?” (ed. Apopeira). Also, she is one of the authors in the collection of short stories "The secret" edited by Amanda Michalopoulou (ed. Kastaniotis). She has been working for the last 5 years as the Head of the Intercultural Center PYXIDA, of the Greek Council for Refugees and also privately as a Gestalt Mental Health Counselor, coordinating parents’ groups as well, as a graduate of the four-year training in Gestalt Psychotherapy.
Monroy Bianca: Advanced Practitioner Expressive Arts Therapy (Step a Head Berlin / EGS) and Master in Design and Art Direction. Over 20 years creating and experimenting with different media and over 10 years working among others with Female Migrants and children supporting their integration processes with focus in going through the emotional and bureaucratical challenges in their new society.
Nikiforou Eva: She is a Mental Health Counselor and Gestalt graduate, with psychology studies at A.C.T. and postgraduate studies in cultural administration (Northumbria University). Conducts individual and group counseling sessions and Gestalt psychotherapy, for children, teenagers and adults at her office in Thessaloniki. She has completed the educational program Messy, Sensory & Clay Play: Sensory play as a means of development, connection and therapy and is a member of the Sensory Education & Therapy Association Messy Play Greece & Cyprus.
From 2002 to 2016 she worked professionally as an actress and puppeteer and participated in more than 25 productions that toured Greece and festivals abroad. She graduated from the school of Mime and Physical Theater PLEYSIS (2010), the school of making, manipulating and animating theatrical puppets from the AYUSAYA! workshop. She has toured (2008-2017) with the Barren Line Fertile program in outermost islands of Greece, performing puppet theater and implementing puppet making and animation workshops. She designed and implemented theater-pedagogical programs for various institutions (Goulandris Museum of Natural History, American Agricultural School of Thessaloniki, Vafopouleio Spiritual Center), libraries and schools in Greece and Cyprus as well as various publishing houses (Metaihmio, Kokkino, Patakis and Papadopoulos). She has worked in private education as a drama teacher and emotional education teacher for 13 years. She has completed a course of study in play therapy (Drama and Play Therapists Association of Greece), in the general principles, applications, limits of empathy and in school psychology (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of the Aegean.) She has coordinated groups of teachers and adults on the practice of NON-violent communication as well as personal development groups. Together with the KDEPPA of Mykonos, she undertook the organization and artistic direction of the Puppet Theater Festival that took place from 2016 to 2022.

Exarmenia Pappa runs a private practice in Athens, Greece. Raptis Nikolas: Mental Health Counselor, Gestalt Psychotherapist, member of EAGT and HAGT. His postgraduate studies in the field of Phycology (MSc Psychology – University of East London), the Theatrology and Education (DEA Αrts du Spectacle - Université PARIS III - Sorbonne Nouvelle), as well as his basic studies in the field of Theatrology (Maîtrise Etudes Théâtrales – Université PARIS III - Sorbonne Nouvelle), couldn’t not influence his professional “identity” and his way of work, both in the field of psychotherapy and counselling and that of education.
Along with his studies, he has participated in many educational theme seminars from authoritative educational organizations and universities, in Greece and abroad.
His engagement with the field of psychology and Gestalt psychotherapy started in 1998, (when he started his psychology studies in the University of René Descartes – Paris VI) with the goal to strengthen his researching study of the field of his postgraduate degree (on the topic of: «The Social and communicational development of children and teenagers through theatrical practice »), that combined the fields of Theatrology, Education and Psychology.
Since then, having coordinated multiple themed and experiential workshops that combined Gestalt psychotherapy with the theatrical act (as well as other forms of art), he has followed a long path in the encouragement of groups of children, teenagers and adults.
Parallelly, from the beginning of the unprecedented pandemic of COVID-19 (March 2020), he has organized and coordinated the free voluntary program for providing psychological support and counsel through the internet: «e-therapy», for Gestalt Foundation.

Tsiamoura Marialena: Mental Health Consultant, trained in Gestalt Therapy, MSc Psychology, Early Childhood Teacher, Puppeteer, trained in Puppet Therapy. Marialena Tsiamoura graduated School of Early Childhood Education in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her thesis was about children’s grief and the role of the puppet during it. She has a Master’s Degree in Psychology and is also trained in Gestalt psychotherapy. Moreover, she has been trained in puppet theatre and object theatre, and in the field of therapeutic puppetry too. She works as a Gestalt therapist with adults, teenagers and kids, and she also coordinates therapy groups and seminars, based on puppet therapy. Furthermore, she collaborates with the organization of Synergy of Music Theatre (SMouTh) in projects and fields (both in Greece and abroad) combining art and mental health.
Tur Valverde Guy-Pierre: Painter and Gestalt therapist working in Mexico City. Trainer at the Instituto Humanista de Psicoterapia Gestalt Mexico City since 1996. He is also invited as a trainer in several Gestalt Institute of the world like Europe and South America. He actualizes himself yearly at the Pacific Gestalt Institute of Los Angeles since 2012. He is also specialized in working in a relational perspective of Gestalt Therapy and the field of aesthetics as a therapeutic tool. Founder of COCREARTE MEXICO, a space for development of creativity (in 2010). As a painter he started to exhibit in 1975 in France and had several collective and individual exhibitions in Europe, United States and Latin America.
Yiamarelou Yianna: M.A. in Clinical Psychology, Gestalt Psychotherapist, Trainer & Supervisor, ECP holder (European Certificate of Psychotherapy). Member of EAGT (European Association for Gestalt Therapy). Founding member of HAGT (Hellenic Association for Gestalt Therapy).
She is trained in trauma, bereavement and crisis management. She specifically trained at the Pacific Gestalt Institute as a Relational Gestalt Therapist.
She was born in 1951 and grew up in Argos. He was profoundly influenced in his early age by the myths, ancient theater, sites, symbols, sculptures, names and their meaning, scattered across the Argolic land.
She studied at the Doxiadis School (1970-72) where he dealt with linear and free drawing.
She took courses in ceramics and pottery at the EOMEX School (1980-81). She has also taken courses in modern dance, photography, art history, sculpture, painting and philosophy of architecture at the University of La Verne.
Zafranas Nikos: He has received the titles of ΒΑ and ΜΑ in the Pianist Performance (University of Music, Graz, Austria), a PhD in Musical Education (University of Brunel, London) while simultaneously being a Mental Health Councilor trained in Gestalt psychotherapy (Gestalt Foundation Thessaloniki). He is the writer of articles on various topics regarding musical education as well as the books “Effects of music instruction on cognitive abilities of young children” (Lambert Academic Publishing, 2010), «Brain, Physiology and Music» and «Communication in Music – Therapy – Education: CO.M.P.A.S.S. Approach», (Kallipos, 2015). As an artist, he has been commended in both Greece and abroad. His performances include recitals, chamber music concerts and accompaniments in many European countries, South Africa and North America. Recordings of his are broadcasted on the radio, on TV on 2 CD, on youtube etc. He is a founding member of the ensemble “Piandaemonium” and of “Transcription Ensemble”. His researching interests include Gestalt psychotherapy, cognitive development and musical education, as well as musical education in the preschool ages. He is a Substitute Professor of Musical Education of A.U.Th..

The philosophical tradition of phenomenology, founded by Edmund Husserl and continued by Martin Heidegger, Maurice Merleau-Ponty and others, offers a method that helps us cultivate a natural and authentic relationship with the world and art.
It is a perspective that redefines the value of direct and meaningful human experience, highlighting existential "becoming".
Characteristic, for the phenomenological approach, is the view that the world is "already here", unique and inexhaustible to be discovered through the "experience of our truth".
Phenomenology is one of the main pillars of Gestalt therapy, seeking to identify and enhance immediate experience, refining the awareness of the individual and their reality, through the phenomenological method – epoche, intentionality, lived body, meaning making.
Phenomenology's engagement with art is a living feature of the phenomenological tradition in philosophy, believing that "artworks" are phenomena capable and dynamic of highlighting our relationship with the world.
According to Merleau Ponty (1991) art teaches us the embodied perception of our relationship with the world. He considers that "art is a turn towards the being of things in their secret vibration, it constitutes the opening of a perspective towards nature..., where its activity is an expressive activity..., it establishes with authentic language, new meanings..., it says what it does not it has been said so new traces of orientation to emerge to be emerged in the world' (p. 15).
Gestalt therapy as a phenomenological approach is directly linked to art, as it views art both as a vehicle and as an entity in its own right. He also considers it important in the development of a "creative" therapeutic process, providing the ground, the tools and the living experimentation thus facilitating the investigation, understanding and experience of the therapeutic work.

During this workshop we will share tools and methods through the art of dance to be applied in both the therapeutic and the educational creative process. Our aim will be to develop our kinetic self-awareness, to draw inspiration for working with the body, to co-create and mainly to dance together in the rhythm of contact.
How can I combine the silent art of dance with speech therapy and education? How can I work individually, in pairs or with groups? Do I touch; Am I trusting; Am I letting go? Do I accept; Am I dancing alone or with you?

The art of theater combined with techniques and applications belonging to the field of educational drama offer an ideal tool for empirical investigation and awareness in issues related to attitudes, behaviors and feelings of the individual.
Through the process of experiential theater practices, the individual has the opportunity to experiment with their expressive means, to try new ways of solving problematic situations and behaviors, to trust and invest in their imagination, creativity and, by extension, their own Self.
The theater is a space of inclusion and coexistence of all the basic structural elements of the other arts, strengthened by the uniqueness given to it by the status of "ephemeral and living art".
Concepts such as, among others: "awareness", "experience", "inclusion", "here and now", "holism", "action"... are just some of the main axes connecting Gestalt therapy with theatrical practice and the wealth of applications generously offered through theater as a valuable tool both in therapy and in any other humanitarian and educational field.

Visual art is sometimes a “figure”, and sometimes the “ground” of cultures. It goes along with and accompanies man from the first days of their existence. It has been a basis and a guide for the evolution of generations and societies. From then until today, from the caves to our offices and classrooms, it gives man the opportunity to focus on the “here and now” and make figures with their pencil, paints and brushes, the clay that their hands shape. Man is placed in the position of the Creator, and their creation is there to transmit, to vent, to communicate everything that is in their awareness or not, ultimately acting as a mirror of a micro-society, in which the positions of transmitter, receiver and message are constantly changing. In this workshop, we will experiment with painting, sculpture, collage and other techniques, playing with “figure and ground” and creating new visual relationships and encounters.

Puppets are material and objects. Despite this, we see them taking breath and life. We connect with them and develop relationships, which are very similar to those we develop with humans. In the therapeutic or educational process, we are called to construct them, to make decisions about their character, to talk about them, to animate them. The puppet, from its part, can speak for us, express what we cannot express, live the experiences we do not have the opportunity to live. It can be a tool and means for investigation, experimentation, expression, communication, creation. It is the boundary of contact, the field in which experience emerges, and the restorative experience itself simultaneously. Our goal is to discover how it works and the dynamics that accompany it.

From the day we are born, all sorts of events and situations alternated in our daily lives. These are experienced differently by each one of us and arouse a range of emotions often recorded and expressed through art. Primitive people initially painted images on cave walls reflecting events and situations they experienced. At the same time, they expressed feelings and their inner world through drawing and body painting or, later, through their attire. For years, people of all ages have been expressing their inner world through the colours they choose to wear. In different cultures colours are still used to make a statement of emotional states concerning death and grief/mourning, weddings, or various ceremonies. Humans seem to try to express their feelings and emotional states in every possible way: either trying to represent the way they perceive themselves (plastic arts), or through the so-called ‘immaterial’ arts, i.e., poetry (literature), music, drama, and dance (Siampani, 2011).
At the seminar, we are going to be involved in artwork and have the opportunity to see art works by persons on therapy and to discuss how art combined with the philosophy of Gestalt therapy remain significant tools to achieve awareness, contact and support even when used online. These sessions focus on vulnerable population groups, such as persons with some form of dementia, the commonest of which is Alzheimer type dementia, and cases of women suffering from breast or metastatic cancers.
This is how one of the women with breast cancer, who participated in the online art therapy session, organised by ALMA ZOIS, the Greek Breast Cancer Association, described her experience: “… I had no knowledge of Gestalt therapy, nor had I participated in a Gestalt art therapy workshop. I am really excited about it. I have learnt a lot about myself through my artwork, the feedback of other participants, the artwork of other women, and the coordinator. Many times, I was speechless seeing the works of others and listening to what they shared. These two hours a week were beautiful and creative; when I logged out after our sessions, I felt light and serene. There were so many feelings during the workshop, but also during the rest of the week, when I recalled our meetings: joy, excitement, impatience, curiosity, admiration, pride, love, caring, relief, kindness, surprise, hope, sorrow, solidarity and more. I wish there were more such meetings, or, if feasible, the current cycle could be extended. I think that if workshop were held at physical meetings, we could feel even closer to each other. On the other hand, through online meetings I had the opportunity to participate in such a workshop and meet so many wonderful women from various parts of Greece.”

The polarities in Gestalt therapy can be understood as the extremes of our inner conflicts or even as the extremes of our field conflicts. Each organism, with its inherent capacity for self-regulation, finds a point of existence among its full range of polarities. What happens at this point and how does the person exist there?
The methodology of expressive arts in psychotherapy, based on the principles of phenomenology, aims to activate our expressive channels, along with verbal articulation and beyond it. The arts available to us vary between: sound creation and music, visual arts, free writing and poetry, kinesiology, dance and performing acts through character creation.
In this workshop we will see some ways in which the alternating use of the expressive arts can serve the exploration of our inner polarities, with the aim of emerging and highlighting the personal voice.
Starting with the sensory body, we will first try to expand the awareness of its function through meditative exercises that use materials, such as clay. We will then work with this awareness to transform it into an out-of-body expression, sometimes with quick shifts between the different methods and sometimes with concentration exercises on one of them. Our goal here is to remove censorship and bring out the raw, rough word.
Our approach to our works then, will be through their aesthetic analysis, which means that we will try to stay in the phenomenology of the aesthetic and move away from acquired interpretations. We approach the aesthetic result with a willingness to understand both the process of expression and its content for each Subject, and not based on any evaluation system.
We will work individually, in pairs, small groups and as a whole and we will need some materials ready with us and comfortable clothes.

Phenomenology
At the beginning of the last century, Brentano, Hursell' s teacher and a series of philosophers, such as Kant, Ponty et al., as well as, centuries before, the Greek apophatisme that refers to "neither says nor hides, but means", argue that "we cannot define reality, we can only define how it appears to us as a phenomenon in the present."
The way we perceive the world has to do with our experiences. The world exists for us through the meaning we give them and how we perceive them.
Art
For the Greeks, as Gadamer states, Art is a knowledge about how something is made, not the making itself.
Art-related concepts were readily available to express the worldly order through sculpture, painting, poetry, myths, music, dance, theater, games.
In this workshop we will carefully explore together how a rigid structure is made rather than the construction of the structure itself.
We will explore disconnection, depersonalization, isolation, aggression and understand them through painting, sculpture, myth, poetry and through understanding we will make contact with what manifests in the 'between' because…

Photography has an uncanny ability to transform its range of motifs into works of art, and despite the challenges, was also recognized as a classic modernist art as it was shaped gradually, through anticipation, fear, and self-awareness (Sontag, 1993). Photography as a type of art, presents the issues in a more familiar and perceptible way, while at the same time promoting a new way of feeling and thinking about the world for humans (Krauss, 1999
As a special form of art, photography includes all those characteristics rather than expression, to sensitize deeper aspects of human existence through psychotherapy. Eugene Smith has stated that 'the photograph at best is a low voice... but sometimes; a photograph can appeal to our senses for awareness' (Knauer, 1999, p.80). In this educational process, we will utilize the principles of Gestalt psychotherapy and the techniques of Judith Weiser's phototherapy with theory and experience. Photography as a means of therapy works as a projection and directly, and has application to many sections of Gestalt psychotherapy, such as form and background, field theory, phenomenology, the circle and contact barriers, polarizations, the relationship I-It and I-Thou, the empty chair, open cases, creative adaptation, neuroses, and other aspects of Gestalt.
The above-mentioned modules of Gestalt psychotherapy have already found application in a number of workshops based on Gestalt therapy and photography, such as in the experiential workshops on:
'The words of a photograph' (2017), 'The dialectical relationship of a photograph – portrait’ (2018), 'A little space between us...' and 'Do I cover or reveal my emptiness in a photograph?'(2019), 'The words of a photograph' theory and experience (2020), 'Photographic Notebook' and 'Photo-graphic Phenomenology' (2021), 'Images in motion' in collaboration with P. Koutousi and 'A short snapshot of us', (2022), 'Art is a childhood', ' A photograph for between us', and 'The photograph in another way : with the eyes of touch' (2023).]
Thus, as part of the Gestalt and Art meeting, the experiential workshop 'Inside and outside the Photographic Box' will give the participants the space and time to focus and experientially create their own photographic - therapeutic 'work' of art.

As a photographer and visual artist for over 20 years I know from personal experiences the power that an image has, and as commonly said, an image is a thousand words. A photo can evoke emotions, tell stories, interact with the viewer, change a mood, give food for thought, mobilize. However, it can also do something else. To act as a tool in the therapeutic process.
In the experiential workshop "Looking at a photograph" of the summer camp 2024 and in the context of the Gestalt and Art meeting we will place special emphasis on the way in which the Gestalt therapist can use photography as a material for the emergence of forms, processing the background of the treated, the work with memories, emotions, unfinished business and making sense of the process both on an individual and group level.

What creative adaptations has my child made to relate to me?

What are the qualities of the relationship we have co-created so far?
If we could record, with something like a magical tool - like a toy - the impact that every interaction with people and phenomena has in our soul, we would find thousands of insights, which, probably would scare us, with the rush that such a mechanism would have. Nevertheless, at the limit of our contact with the world, there is always a creative adjustment.
The child: The writers’ works highlight the ways they have adapted as children to deal with this big world that surrounds them. The things that have failed them, the people who neglected them, challenged them, fed them chewed food, zeroes them or teaches them how to love, listen, care and be in touch. These repetitive ways, shaped their view of themselves and the world, gave the uniqueness to their writings, and this movement from being a passive receiver to a writer, saved them.
The parent: The mother and as a partner, the mother who didn't know if she wanted to be a mother, the divorced mother. The father as a child with his father, the father and his teenage daughter, the workaholic father.
The relationship: Attempting contact, failure, conflict, awareness, resolution, reflection, withdrawal and stillness.
Gestalt illuminates the flow of the personal process the individual follows when entering different relationships. In this workshop the parents with their children will have the opportunity to explore the ways of contact within their relationship and to record and illustrate, in their own unique way, a story from their relationship.

Our sensing organs are like windows through which we discover the world and ourselves. What can sensory play, or any activity that stimulates our senses, offer us? In addition to endless hours of joy, enjoyment and carelessness that we all imagine, it can support the development of awareness, contribute to contact with oneself and the environment, expand the limit of our options, invite us to explore levels of conflict and ways of existence (Oaklander, 2001).
As part of the Gestalt and Art meeting in the Dirty Palms, Clean Hands experiential workshop, we will use some of the types of sensory play:
Our motivation in this meeting is to remember to give ourselves the time and space to enjoy each experience as casually as possible without judgment, as well as to enter into an active exploration towards an authentic and holistic sensory experience.

Art can affect people powerfully, move and excite them. Buber uses the example of art to show how one dimension of reality, the You dimension, transitions into another, the It dimension (Apostolopoulos, 1991). He believes that art derives its origin from an apparition-inspiration that, appearing in the soul of the artist, demands to be made into a piece of art. If the man (artist) undertakes this transfiguration and gives himself with all his being to the invitation, with self-sacrifice and boldness, if he relates as I-Thou in apparition, then the creative power flows in and the work of art is born. The work of art created is a 'thing' that can be known empirically and which has specific (possibly fixed) properties. If, for example, a sadness is experienced, by expressing this sadness with music that the person produces, he must put his experience into action, thus objectifying the experience of sadness. In this way, what is immediate at the beginning gradually loses its immediacy as it undergoes the intervention of various means, is set within limits and measured by generally accepted standards. Thus, the creation of art serves both the individual's need for self-expression and for communication - socialization. Fortunately, there is the possibility of a re-transformation of the artistic act from It to You, when e.g., the person relates to the music with his whole being in an "I-Thou" relationship and experiences on an existential level the emotions that it contains and expresses. Thus arises the paradox that a realized work is at the same time de-realized (without reality), as it passes from the sphere of "You" to the sphere of "It".
Buber considers that some form of safety is required for someone to come to a real, meaningful dialogue, to be able to show his vulnerable side and also to allow himself to be transformed by contact with the other (Buber, 1969; 1975; Apostolopoulos, 1991). One cannot meet in an existential dialogue with someone else when one feels fear. The necessary sense of security, then, can be the basis of relating, a basis that can lead to a true "I-Thou" contact and serve the needs of both parties. Meaningful musical interaction in this context can lead to transformative experiences and a lifetime of authentic interaction.
A creative equal encounter of Gestalt therapy with the performing and visual arts through a cycle of workshops.
We live with very different challenges even compared to just the previous generation. We worry about the environment, about people on the edge of poverty, about wars. Our world can be overwhelmingly full of challenges. In this ever-changing situation, encountering and utilizing the Gestalt therapeutic approach and the tools of the performing and visual arts can be a port, an escape. It can be a safety valve, releasing tension and energy when nothing else seems possible.
The integration of art into psychotherapeutic practice has been established for years as an effective intervention that contributes to the recovery and rehabilitation of mental illness. Nevertheless, this integration is often a challenge for mental health professionals, as there is no systematic and reliable way of choosing the appropriate intervention depending on the type of psychological difficulties and the stage of the therapeutic process. On the other hand, Gestalt psychotherapy based on phenomenology and existential dialogue is a suitable field where art and the possibilities it offers can be integrated into the psychotherapeutic process and contribute to the realization of therapeutic goals.
The aim of these workshops is the systematic recording and highlighting of tools and techniques that come from the field of visual and performing arts and have been successfully integrated into the Gestalt psychotherapy methodology. Utilizing and documenting the multi-year experience (>25 years) of 30 Gestalt psychotherapists and artist collaborators, a systematic record of strategies, tools and techniques that have been used in individual or group psychotherapy and have been empirically demonstrated as good practices was made.
In each workshop, the goals of each intervention, the therapeutic stage at which it is appropriate to be used and the expected therapeutic benefits are mentioned. In addition, space and time is given to experience and discuss on the one hand the process of choosing the appropriate tool by the therapist so that the integration of art in psychotherapy is always based on the therapeutic goals and on the other hand, the respect and application of the moral and ethical rules that govern the psychotherapeutic practice when it incorporates artistic expression.
With this expressive methodology based on the principles of phenomenology, which aims to activate our expressive means, with or without verbal articulation, we are led to transformative experiences and acquire a valuable work tool both in therapy and in any other humanitarian and educational field.
The cycle of workshops (Total hours 102, webinars 60, summer camp 42) is addressed both to Gestalt psychotherapists as a continuing education activity and to therapists of other approaches, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, social anthropologists, teachers, artists and includes theory, experiential and teaching experience as well as supervision.

He has been a lecturer at the Athens University of Business and Economics, as well in M.B.A. classes at the University of N. York in Prague and the University of N. York in Tirana. He works as Gestalt in Organizations coach, trainer and supervisor and he is the coordinator of the Gestalt Coaching in Business & Organizations Cycle of workshops of Gestalt Foundation, Greece. He authored 18 books, including “the Art of Change. Gestalt: a different approach for Organizations” with co-authors F. Meulmeester and I. Rizou.
